Connect an AC recovery machine to the high and low pressure service ports
Use the machine to apply a vacuum to the system to extract all of the refrigerant and capture it in an approved container
With the system evacuated, complete repairs and/or component replacement
Using the AC machine, evacuate the system of all air and moisture
Allow the system to remain under vacuum for up to 30 minutes
Charge the system with an amount of refrigerant and oil specific to your vehicle
Start your engine and test the system to verify the repair

Do you have to evacuate the air conditioning system before recharging?
Yes. Evacuating an AC system before recharging is necessary. Evacuation draws out all of the air and moisture from the system under vacuum. This serves to prevent corrosion and creates the space necessary in the system for the fresh refrigerant to enter. Evacuation can also help a technician to check for leaks.
Do you have to evacuate the AC system to change the compressor?
In order to replace an AC compressor, the lines leading to and from the component must be removed. If the system is not evacuated first, refrigerant would escape into the atmosphere. Not only is that damaging to the environment, it is illegal. And because the refrigerant is under pressure, it can also be dangerous.
Does evacuating an AC system remove the oil?
