Heating and Air-Conditioning

The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system (commonly abbreviated as HVAC) controls the interior climate of your vehicle, keeping it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The system is made up of two parts: one for cooling and one for heating. A fan in the center of the system circulates the temperature-controlled air out through the vents of the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The knobs on your vehicle’s center console control how much and what temperature air comes through the vents.

Heating System

The engine generates heat as it runs, but most of this is removed by the engine cooling system. However, some of this heat is captured by the heating system’s heater core to distribute heath throughout the cabin.

Heater Core

The heater core is the central component of your vehicle’s heating system. It captures some of the hot coolant from the engine where it is later dispersed through your vehicle by a blower fan. The heater core is located right behind your vehicles dashboard, putting it in close proximity to the cabin air vents that the hot air is dispersed from.

AC System

Behind the dashboard, a cold radiator called an evaporator creates cool air. The cool air is then distributed throughout the cabin through the passenger air vents. The air is initially captured, treated by refrigerant gas, and then sent to the condenser at the front of the vehicle and fed through the AC lines that lead to the evaporator.

AC Compressor

The AC compressor is responsible for cycling refrigerant gas throughout the AC system. Additionally, it will compress some of this gas and send it to the condenser, where it will be turned into a liquid. This liquid is then sent to the evaporator, where it is evaporated and mixed in with the air in the cabin to make it cool.

HVAC system maintenance

When getting maintenance done on your vehicle’s heating and/or cooling system, it is important to have it done by a trained professional. The best way to get maintenance done on your car is by booking an appointment through CarAdvise. CarAdvise makes car care simple and guarantees that you will pay less than the shop price for all maintenance and repairs.
