Most Legendary Car Races in History

Monaco Grand Prix

Monaco

The Monaco Grand Prix has been held every year since 1929. It is one of the most challenging and demanding race tracks in the world. Competitors race through the narrow, meandering streets of Monaco at different elevations, shooting around sharp corners. The perils of racing at this venue add to its allure. Along with the Le Mans 24-hour race and the Indianapolis 500, the Monaco Grand Prix constitutes the triple crown of motorsport.

24 Hours of Le Mans

Le Mans

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the oldest sports car races starting in 1923. The race is held annually near the French town of Le Mans at the Circuit de la Sarthe. This grueling race track is a combination of dedicated track sections as well as closed-off public roads.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the ultimate test of endurance, speed, and skill in motorsports. Out of 60 cars that were able to qualify for the 2018 event, just 41 cars completed the race. This race pushes both drivers and cars to their limits. Drivers must deliver top performance during the entire day, while their cars must withstand mechanical failure while racing nonstop for 24 hours.

Indianapolis 500

Indy 500

Officially known as the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, the Indy 500 is the oldest major sports car race in the world, dating back to 1911. This popular racing event is held each year during Memorial Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The track is informally known as the ‘Brickyard’ since it was originally laid out in brick rather than asphalt. A yard of brick still exists near the start/finish line.

Although there are no official figures for attendance, the seating capacity of the speed track exceeds 250,000. Due to the circular contour and straight sections, the Indy 500 speed track has one of the highest average speeds in motor racing.
