Winter Driving Safety – Driving Tips

Driving in inclement weather is never a fun experience, but driving in snowy or icy conditions takes the cake for being the worst. It’s important to be extra careful driving in snow, so here are our best tips for winter driving:

  1. Slow and steady wins the race! Snow and ice automatically make it more difficult to stop and control your car, and if you’re driving too fast risk increases. Take things slow and you’ll get to where you want to be.
  2. It’s all in the tread! Before the first big snow of the year make sure you check your tires. 6/32-inch to 5/32-inch deep tread is the minimum tread depth for wintertime. If your tires are more worn than that you may want to consider getting winter tires.
  3. Don’t slam on the breaks! Although it’s automatic to slam and stand on your breaks when you start sliding, you should do your best to remember that is not the safest way to break. Ease up on the breaks and it’ll be easier for you to control your car.
  4. Winter wiper fluid is your new best friend! We highly recommend purchasing winter wiper fluid, also known as a de-icer. This mixture won’t freeze and it stops liquids from freezing to your windshield, keeping your view clear.
